okay I guess finally I'll write my first post in English. It''s kind of late here and I just came back from our vacation. It's also easier because I'm thinking in English anyway and then i don't have to change and look for words. :)
My spring break started last Thursday at about noon because we had only a half day of school. After this we had our first outdoor track practice for this season and it was hard but very nice cause the sun was shining a lot. After this I got a ride home and did some stuff at home till my host parents came home and we had dinner. Oh I also got a lunch package from my host mum and it was so cute! :)
On Friday morning I went on a run on my own because we wanted to leave here around 11 a.m. to go to my grandparents to southern Illinois. After the 2:30 hour drive we had lunch all together and spent some time outside and I rode the four wheeler with my grandpa again and we fished and enjoyed the time together.
For dinner we drove to mount Carmel and we ate at a fish restaurant with the whole family.
Our plan was to leave an Saturday after the basketball game of one of my cousins but we decided to stay a night longer. So after the game we went to Evansville in Indiana to the movie theater and watched "God's not dead". It's an awesome movie and it's about a college student how has to prove his professor that god is not dead. Since I'm here in the U.S. I really like going to church on Sundays and my relationship to god got much bigger. Church is more fun here and we do so many things :)
On Sunday we went with the whole family to church because my cousins were preaching and performing there. After lunch we left then and got back home in the afternoon.
On Monday I had another track meet and it was pretty nice because I could sleep in. This time I did the 1600m and got another PR( personal record). I was very glad with my results and it was a lot of fun again to be with the team and cheer for each other. We came back kind of late though. On Tuesday we had an easier practice then and after I came home I started packing for our vacation and got all my stuff together because we anted to leave around 8 the next day.
So on Wednesday after breakfast we started our trip and headed towards Madison in Wisconsin. It took us about 4 or 5 hours to get there and we really wanted to eat Dim Sum for lunch but the restaurant was closed but we had Chinese anyway. After this we went to the National Mustard Museum, where they had all kinds of mustard from all states and all over the world. So actually I saw some familiar German ones too :D You could also try some. It was interesting and kind of neat.
After we checked in in our hotel we drove a little bit around Madison and I saw the capital building of Wisconsin and we went to a spice shop and I've been the first time to Target :D It's kind of like Wallmart or Meijer, only a little bit better :)
For dinner we went to a very cool restaurant which I would say is typical american. It looked so cool and vehicles were hanging over our heads and on the TV screens the were showing basketball :)
Around 9 a.m on Saturday we were leaving Wisconsin to get to Minneapolis in Minnesota. The drive took about 4 or 5 hours again. I'm not exactly sure because we stopped several time for the bathroom. After we arrived there we checked in in our hotel again and then went to the Mall of America, which was only about 10 min from our hotel away. You can't imagine how big this mall is!!! :o 520 shops were waiting for me and it was so ridiculous! Everything was so huge and the variety was so big because they really have every kind of store. A bunch of restaurants, clothes stores, shoes and more and more. In the middle of the mall is an amusement park with roller coasters and a hiking place and more. There is also an aquarium, exactly it's a Saelife, inside and a huge Lego store,a theater, a barbie house and a huge American girl store, we you can basically buy everything for your doll and get her hair and nail done. Everything is so awesome! We could only finish the first level and I think were all very exhausted at the end. The mall closes at 9:30 p.m, so we left after dinner.
On Friday we went to the Science Museum after breakfast ans it was very interesting! You can see and try a lot and I think I even liked this one more than the one in Chicago.
A real brain :D |
Nevertheless we left around noon to go back to the hotel to get my coupon book for the mall, which I forgot in the morning. My goal for this day was to find a Prom dress. Prom is in May and you could compair it with "Abiball" in Germany. It's a big dance for the juniors and seniors (11th&12th grade) and the students dress up. It felt like we looked in 500 different stores and i tried a bunch of dresses on. At the end of the day I went back to the first store I went to and tried the one dress on that I really from the beginning but this time in a different color and I loved it so much. When I came out of the fitting room I had a smile in my face and my hostmum too :) So at the end I bought this dress and I'm really happy with it. I try to upload a picture later, because I don't want to put it on tonight. We also finished the other 3 levels and shopped a little bit more and we were so tired at the end! However, it was worth it!
Today we had to drive 9 hours back to Chamapaign but this time we drove through Iowa and I got another state in. I've been to 11 states now :)
Here are some picture from the Mall of America:

This was the best spring break in my life and I got so many new experiences! I'm so glad that I got the perfect host family and I can't say thank you too often because what they do for me is ridiculous and they help me with everything ! Thank you!
I'm also so thankful that my family in Germany gave me the opportunity to come to the U.S. and basically let me go to give me the world!
I really have to sleep now, it's already late.
See you,
Pauline :)
